Properties

Reacts violently with water: Extremely sensitive to air and moisture, it will undergo a violent reaction when in contact with water, releasing highly flammable methane gas.

Flammable: Its solution is a flammable liquid. In humid air, due to the violent and exothermic reaction, highly flammable methane gas will be released.

Stability: It should be operated and stored under the protection of anhydrous and oxygen-free inert gases such as nitrogen or argon. Avoid contact with oxidants, acids, alcohols, etc. at room temperature.

Applications

1. Pharmaceutical synthesis: Widely used in drug synthesis. For example, in the industrial production of quinolone antibiotics, it is used as a key alkylating reagent to construct the molecular skeleton of drugs. It can also react with complex molecules such as Garner's aldehydes to synthesize biologically active compounds.

2. Catalytic materials: Can be used to prepare supported non-metallocene catalysts. This catalyst exhibits excellent stereoselectivity in olefin polymerization reactions, which is an important application direction in the field of polymer material synthesis.

3. General methylating reagent: As a synthetic reagent that can provide methyl anions (CH₃⁻), it is used to introduce methyl groups into target molecules to synthesize a variety of fine chemicals such as alcohols and ketones.
